Whether they are living in your bed or on the sofa in the office lobby, bed bugs can be a source of irritation and distress. Bed bugs feed on the blood of humans and other mammals. Bed bug bites typically do not hurt. However, your body will react to the bite and cause itchiness that can be incredibly irritating.
Multiple bites can result in an itchy rash or eczema. And remember that people’s skin has different levels of sensitivity. A person who has very sensitive skin can suffer from a lot of discomfort from the simple bite of a bed bug. All those bites on the skin can also be quite unsightly, and the itchiness from bed bug bites can last for days.
And if you’re the type who likes to scratch, you may cause the bites to open wounds which can cause scarring. This is why bed bug bites are more likely to cause marks and scarring in children. Young kids have a hard time controlling themselves from scratching. And because kids’ fingernails can get dirty from playing, they are at risk of infection.
Furthermore, some people may have an allergic reaction to bed bug bites which can last up to a week or two. These type of reactions may require medical attention.
